A cascading cornucopia of cool comics, crazy cartoons, & classic collectables - plus other completely captivating & occasionally controversial contents. With nostalgic notions, sentimental sighings, wistful wonderings, remorseful ruminations, melancholy musings, rueful reflections, poignant ponderings, & yearnings for yesteryear. (And a few profound perplexities, puzzling paradoxes, & a bevy of big, beautiful, bedazzling, buxom Babes to round it all off.)

I'd never actually heard of Mad or Alfred E. Neumann until a couple of years ago - I even had to google Alfred E. to find out who he was so I'm astonished there was a UK edition of Mad from 1959 till 1994, it passed me by completely !!
ReplyDeleteThe U.S. edition is still on sale in comic shops like Forbidden Planet, CJ - you should give it a try.
ReplyDeleteI don't recall the UK edition at all. I still remember reading MAD though. Either they were US imports or they had the exact same covers as the U.S. Versions. Because I remember distinctly the parodies of Superman and Star Trek the motion picture.
ReplyDeleteWhen they printed the parodies, Phil, they generally had the covers to them (although a different numbering, and probably the other contents differed), but in the '70s. the U.K. edition started carrying parodies of British TV programmes and would've had their own covers, different from U.S. ones.
ReplyDeleteAt least you guys aren't in the dark about this popular mag. Of course I wish the latest issues were back to being black & white again and only parody ads, not real!
ReplyDeleteI suppose the ads are a price to pay for sales not being what they once were, Chris.
ReplyDeleteI suppose that's true. Nobody reads a magazine much these days, let alone buy one.
ReplyDeleteWell, I don't know about 'nobody', Chris, but it certainly seems that not enough people do, sadly.
