Never seen these before but they are great. I love the little Bat-Stands they are on as well. Nice paint job. I don't know why but they reminded me of a free gift you might have got in a cereal packet in the 50s/60s/70s. I wonder why they stopped doing those because they are a great selling point, kids always want a free toy or collect a series of cards. I still remember the Doctor Who cards in Weetabix and wish I still had them. They also did Superman cards as well, I still have some of those but probably not the full set.
ReplyDeleteI think some cereal manufacturers still do giveaways on occasion, M, though maybe not as regularly as they used to. As for the Dynamic Duo, they're not too far removed from Del Boy and Rodney when they were dressed as B&R for a fancy dress party.
DeleteIf I remember correctly? Cherilea used to manufacture a full range of super tough and very excellent Action Man vehicles, especially the armoured car. I remember when my Action Man was back in the barracks ('toybox!') having some 'R & R', and maybe a bit of 'love you, long time action', with my sisters Barbie doll. I was always out racing down the street, straddled across the said vehicle, riding it like a go-cart, but using my feet for steering and brakes. My Mum always played hell, because I destroyed my shoes quite frequently, due to this activity. Toys and childhoods, were ruddy amazing back then! Your correct about their appearance Kid, more like 'Fatman and Slob'in', not very dynamic, but still charming and fun...
ReplyDeleteIt could well be that Cherilea made vehicles for Action Man, AAW, but I never had any so don't know for sure. (I'll take your word for it.) I know (because I have one) that they also made Daleks, again only available from Woolworth's.
DeleteI had these 2 Cherilea figures as a kid and loved them. My abiding memory of them was that the paint flaked off very quickly. Anytime I see these in antique type shops they are in a bit of a state, no bases, no paint, some missing capes etc but still costing a heck of a lot. You've done a nice paint job on your 2 new models.
ReplyDeleteOddly, before I obtained my first replacements 11 years back, McS, I didn't remember them being so 'deformed' as they look now. These days, I only have to glance at them and I feel like a kid again. And you're right, the paint did flake off very quickly, but the decades have affected it as it seems more difficult to remove sometimes, depending on what the colour is.
DeleteYup ... had these. And I even mentioned them in my own blog, in the entry on the Batman TV show ... https://marvelsilverage.blogspot.com/2014/09/why-i-thought-comics-were-lost-cause-in.html
ReplyDeleteI'll have read it at the time, Al, but so bad is my memory these days, I don't remember it. I'm sometimes astonished to find I've left a comment on some blogs that I don't recall leaving. I'll head over to your site and reread it once I've filled the bird feeders and had my brekkie.
