A cascading cornucopia of cool comics, crazy cartoons, & classic collectables - plus other completely captivating & occasionally controversial contents. With nostalgic notions, sentimental sighings, wistful wonderings, remorseful ruminations, melancholy musings, rueful reflections, poignant ponderings, & yearnings for yesteryear. (And a few profound perplexities, puzzling paradoxes, & a bevy of big, beautiful, bedazzling, buxom Babes to round it all off.)

I liked the white dots you added to the sides of your first sleigh, Kid, but you removed them.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I'm quite fond of Ted Heath as he took us into the Common Market which I approve of and Harold MacMillan built 300,000 council houses a year so he was OK too. Just to prove I don't dislike all Tories!
Didn't add white dots, CJ, it was yellow ones if I recall rightly. Might add them again one day.
ReplyDeleteWhat? Tories who did something good that you approve of? Couldn't have been real Tories then. Why? 'Cos they're all b@st@rds! (As are most if not all politicians.)
Oops, yellow dots - I liked them anyway, whatever the colour.
ReplyDeleteTalking of Christmas, Kid - have you made a decision about your decorations? Will you go to all the effort of getting them down from the loft again or are you planning something a lot simpler?
Sadly, I fear it will be a lot simpler this year, because it takes too long to put up and take down my Christmas decorations. I'll feel bad if I have to leave most of them up in the loft, even though I made up for it a bit in advance by leaving all my decorations on display from November '22 right up until around February '24. I'm already behind, because I usually try and put them up in the living-room on November 1st every year, though sometimes it's a little later.
ReplyDeleteUp until the age of seven, the first house I lived in was a couple of streets away from the newsagent where I spent most of my pocket money. Mostly comics, there was also the traditional 'Made in Hong Kong' toys that would also catch my eye. This is the kind of thing that I would have loved back then.
ReplyDeleteI've thought about this and I think I have a love of bright colours. I remember buying a Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck comic in the 70s that had a free gift which was a silver spangly picture of Donald Duck. Couldn't resist it. Hence brightly coloured comic covers and toys like the Space Blimp are irresistible to me. Adverts on the other hand have no effect on me whatsoever. I'm more likely not to buy a product if I find the advert annoying.
I think my liking for things springs from the fact that I've simply never grown up. Just bought a Herts Plastic Moulders Dalek and Plaston Tardis, both of which I had as a kid in the '60s. I'll stick 'em on the blog when they arrive.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on this major purchase Kid! And yes, a reversed colour scheme. LP or Lik Be really pushed the boat out with this festive mash-up and has to be one of the HK firm's rarest pieces - and dare I say oddest - to find so kudos! They weren't unfamiliar with animals, having released many small instrument-playing zoo animals and a series of circus animals too. As you'll know, the Blimp's actual companion piece is the Rabbit Space Blimp, although the example I've seen [on my blog] is a bear, so there could well be a Bear Space Blimp. Just a theory. The reindeer head got recycled too on other toys I reckon. Anyways, such a cool purchase and enjoy! happy Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Woodsy, and Merry Christmas to you, too, when it comes. The same seller I got Santa from currently has the Rabbit Blimp for sale on eBay, but the price is quite hefty. I could afford it, but I didn't have it as a kid so it has no nostalgic attraction to me. (Maybe one day.) Cheers.
ReplyDeleteAh, there's a joy to not growing up that most actual grown-ups just don't experience. Their loss I say, as I look around at my room full of possessions. And in deference to my wife, who somehow manages to achieve a more zen approach to material things, I do limit the collectables (mostly) to one room.
ReplyDelete(Cut & pasted from email due to commenting problems PC is experiencing.)
I usually fill two rooms with some of my collectables, PC, but they're starting to spread into my living room now as well. There's just no stopping them. (Or me.) Hope you can get those commenting issues sorted before too long.
