A cascading cornucopia of cool comics, crazy cartoons, & classic collectables - plus other completely captivating & occasionally controversial contents. With nostalgic notions, sentimental sighings, wistful wonderings, remorseful ruminations, melancholy musings, rueful reflections, poignant ponderings, & yearnings for yesteryear. (And a few profound perplexities, puzzling paradoxes, & a bevy of big, beautiful, bedazzling, buxom Babes to round it all off.)

LIFE IS A BAGATELLE, OLD CHUM... WHAT'S THAT - CAROUSEL, YOU SAY? OH WELL, SO MUCH FOR MY CHOICE OF BLOG TITLE...

Oh, Gordie - you're my hero! (You/me from an alternate universe.)
ReplyDeleteWill you play with them? I owned a little bagatelle once and it was fun.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, Kid, you meant Cabaret not Carousel - life is a cabaret, old chum, so come to the cabaret.
Kid - Something like a very simplified version of that bagatelle game (without the tv theme & pin-ball angle) was given away as free gift, in Golden Oaties cereal:

Obviously, it's much smaller and very basic, by comparison.

That's exactly what I meant, CJ, and was even singing it in my head, but when I came to type it out it had metamorphosed into 'Carousel'. Brain fog.
ReplyDeleteWill I play with my Bagatelles? I'll have a few goes because they can appeal to adults as well as children - it's not like pushing a friction-drive toy car along the carpet, making 'Brmmm-brmmm' noises, is it? However, I'll likely soon put them away with the Yogi Bear Bagatelle I got a few years ago once the novelty wears off. It's simply the joy of ownership that appeals to me, not play-value.

I seem to remember simplified versions being given away with cereals or in Lucky Bags when I was a kid, P, so I'll take a wee look at that link shortly. Thanks.
Ah, so beautiful! (Not you, the Fireball XL5!!!). I think I'll just print out your picture of this beauty in case I never find one. Venus looks a little space deranged, tho, and Steve looks like he might have had goggles surgically implanted. Oh! A question comes to mind. Have you bought the two Fireball comic collection hardcovers from Anderson? I've bought all of them except Terrahawks, and I'll probably get that someday as well. And on a completely different tangent, just got in a copy of Jewel in the Skull by Cawthorn. I just love his art. Just found out about him! Now to find the rest of his comics! Take care now.
ReplyDeleteI bought two copies of the Fireball XL5 Comics Anthology and one of the Technical Operations Manual, plus two copies of the Stingray Comics Anthology, LM. Might not bother with the Manual as it doesn't look up to much, to be honest. Another post about the two Bagatelles coming soon.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I also got both UFO Comics Anthology volumes.
DeleteThese comic collections are like getting bonus episodes of the tv shows. I bought the Fireball technical manual just because I love the show so much. If they do a Supercar one I'll probably get that as well. I was a little underwhelmed by the Supercar card set just released. But I'm still glad I bought it, versus looking for it a few years later and paying double. Sigh. I'm still way behind in all these facsimiles being published. I need to get the DC treasuries before they go out of print, as I apparently misplaced my originals, somehow.
ReplyDeleteI've got the Supercar card set as well, LM. It's like 'reclaiming' something from childhood that I never had at the time, if such a thing makes sense. I've got two or three of the new DC Collectors' Editions and will probably get some more.
