The CAT's WHISKERS...

Working on the assumption that most Crivs won't be averse to some pictures of pussy (oi, behave, you dirty-minded lot), I thought I'd show you this trio of photos of a 'stray' cat which has adopted me.  I call her 'Baby' and she has her own wee 'hoose' in my front porch.  Today, she decided to do a bit of sunbathing in my back garden and promptly commandeered a set of chairs for the purpose.  She looks like the cat who got the cream, eh?

"Nobody puts Baby in a corner" - except herself, obviously, as she's in a corner of the garden.  (See what I did there?  Clever me.)

  1. A fine looking chap. My Mom said goodbye to her last cat a few months back but like yourself she has a lodger who is trying to move in. I've told her not to encourage him because she is thinking of moving, maybe to a flat. He's a timid little thing but you can't help liking him. Sunbathing in Scotland? I hope the weather's as good in a couple of weeks as me and the wife will be heading your way to see some land that we own up there. One square foot. It's part of a restoration scheme for Dunans Castle. We also get a Lord and Lady title. I'm a Laird apparently.

  2. I'm more of a dog person, M, but I don't mind cats and this one is quite affectionate - especially when she's looking for food. Enjoy your visit to Scotland when you get here, and I hope the sun shines for you.

  3. Oops I think I misgendered her there. A fine looking Lassie, I meant. Mom's got a dog too. Our house was a menagerie when I was growing up, we had one of everything over the years. Thanks Kid, we're looking forward to it, it's been a couple of years since we were last there.

  4. We've had three dogs (not all at the one time), several tropical fish, a hamster, a mouse, various budgies and finches, a rabbit, and a kestrel, M, over the years. The budgies and finches we had in pairs (at different times), and the fish obviously cohabited in their fish tank, so our house wasn't quite a zoo, more like an animal guest house. In November, it'll be 25 years since my dog (Zara) died and I haven't had a pet since. (Baby is a stray, and the foxes, squirrels, pigeons, wild birds, etc., that I feed are only visitors. Baby comes into the house for a heat, a feed, and a nap, but she has her own place in the porch.)

  5. My only pet was a cat which my parents owned when I was born so he was a bit older than me and he died when I was about 10. Our cat never had a name and was simply referred to as "the cat" which is a bit unusual I realise but it was normal in my family!

  6. I forgot to mention that our cat was a Manx cat which don't have a tail. As a kid I would get irritated by other children asking things like "Where's your cat's tail?" or "Did your father chop your cat's tail off?" and I'd have to explain about tail-less Manx cats.

  7. Up until I was 10, CJ, I didn't have a name either. I was simply referred to as 'the boy', or 'where's that wee b@st@rd?'. Also, I didn't have a cat, but had a cat's tail, which I used to drag about behind me on a piece of string. I am, of course, lying through my teeth.

  8. I 've had 2 budgies. A hamster and 2 dogs pets. My first, dog sadly had to be put to sleep as a puppy as the breeder hadnt wormed her and she was to far gone by time we had her to help (it was all unregulated in the 1960s). My next wee dog we got about 5 years later and I had her for 15 years, I still miss her. We are currently looking after a miniature dachshund at the moment (for a family member who is working in US for a few years) and she's amazing, so much fun. Such a tiny wee thing but she has a big personality. We can't walk down the street without someone wanting to pet her. I'm not a cat person I'm afraid lovely animals but not for me. An ex girlfriend of mine kept lizards, spiders and stick insects as pets, they fair crept me out.

  9. What category do you think that particular ex-girlfriend filed YOU under, McS? Aren't all those 'pets' the ingredients that witches use to mix in their brews? Sounds like you had a lucky escape. Yeah, dogs are brilliant, but I'm now too old, too ill, and too unfit to get another one, sadly.

  10. Lol she was a bit of a rock chick and was training to be a zoologist which probably explains the creepy crawlies. It was a long time ago so not sure what happened to her. Yeah spot on, dogs are brilliant but they can be a lot of work I've not walked so much in years but I am starting to reap the benefits.

  11. You'll be the fittest guy ever to die of a cold which you caught while walking the dog when it was p*ssing of rain, McS. There can sometimes be a drawback to benefits - swings and roundabouts, eh?

  12. I am amazed she hasn't commandeered your house with you finishing up in the wee hoose on the porch heh

  13. No danger of that happening, LH - I wouldn't fit into her wee hoose in the porch.
