I feel compelled to point out what a terrible logo this comic has - truly awful |
A cascading cornucopia of cool comics, crazy cartoons, & classic collectables - plus other completely captivating & occasionally controversial contents. With nostalgic notions, sentimental sighings, wistful wonderings, remorseful ruminations, melancholy musings, rueful reflections, poignant ponderings, & yearnings for yesteryear. (And a few profound perplexities, puzzling paradoxes, & a bevy of big, beautiful, bedazzling, buxom Babes to round it all off.)

I don't think I remembered any of these at the time. In fact I only became aware of the Incredible Hulk comic about 7 years ago when I picked up a copy that had one of my favourite Hulk strips in it ( reminded me of MWOM). Were these all UK Marvel books?
ReplyDeleteIn between composing the post and publishing it, McS, Marvel Madhouse disappeared, but I've now restored it so take another look. Yup, these were all Marvel UK mags.
ReplyDeleteAnd they're all my original issues from their time of publication as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm a massive Rupert bear fan but I've never seen these comics before. Did they contain new stories or just reprints from the daily express or annuals. I will have a look on ebay
ReplyDeleteI never really looked much at them, AL, as I only bought them because they were new comics. I didn't start collecting selective Rupert books 'til years later. And I've put the issues away after scanning them, so I can't really check without half-emptying my cupboard again, which I don't feel much like doing.
ReplyDeleteThat's ok. I know what you mean. I have a bedside cabinet full of 70s british marvel comics which I've never opened for at least 30 years !!
ReplyDeleteI considered including interior images to all these comics in the post, but decided against it on the grounds that I didn't with the previous two posts. Next time I'm looking for something specific in the cupboard, I'll take a wee look at the Rupert issues and check what they're like. I've also got #s 2 & 3 of the '80s series and a Holiday Special for the '90s one.
ReplyDeleteFor me the term "Marvel UK" will always mean the weekly comics I read from POTA #5 in November 1974 to the final issues of MWOM and SSM in January 1979.
ReplyDeleteWhich is understandable I suppose, CJ, as they were your personal experience of Marvel UK. However, the fact remains that all the comics in this post are official Marvel UK publications, as Panini didn't take over until a few years afterwards.
ReplyDeleteI never knew Marvel did Rupert. I remember getting the Hulk weekly comic, but that must have been 1978 or 1979, I think.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that would've been the paper-covered comic to tie in with Marvel and Spider-Man, MW. This one was a glossy-covered comic more like the ones from the pre-Dez Skinn period.
