THE PINK PANTHER ON HOLIDAY...

Copyright relevant owner

The first Pink Panther Holiday Special I ever bought was the 1976 one, which for many years was the only one in my collection.  Then I started buying others when I saw them on eBay and now have several of these TV Comic tie-ins from Polystyle Publications, the latest addition being the 1982 offering.  They were usually comprised of reprints from US Pink Panther comics, with a smattering of pages from TV Comic, most of which I think were also reprints, though there may have been the occasional specially produced new strip.

I prefer the British single page strips over the American several page ones (as the UK strips are usually funny and witty at the same time), so as a special treat, here are a few colour pages from my recently acquired Special which arrived at Castel Crivens yesterday.  (Click on images to enlarge, then click again for optimum size.)

  1. I was never a fan of the Pink Panther and wasn't aware he was popular enough to get a special. I liked the PP cartoon theme tune though .

  2. I've got 9 PP Specials, McS (one is an earlier, non Polystyle comic though) and I need at least another four to fill gaps, but I've no idea how many there were in all. So I guess he was pretty popular at some stage. Love the theme as well.

  3. This is a dumb question but- is cricket popular in Scotland? Why is it I don’t ever remember Scotland being on tv? It was always county cricket or England vs. visitors.
There’s something so odd about Pink Panther actually speaking.

  4. I think there are some cricket fans in Scotland, PS, but it's really an English obsession as far as I can tell. Incidentally, in the US PP strips, he's even more talkative.

  5. Scotland used to be linked to English cricket ( some famous captains and players for England were Scots, some Welsh and Irish as well). Scotland went our own way cricket wise in the early 1990s and we are ok as a team and have the odd good result but not in same league as England. There are a few cricket clubs here like Paisley and Coatbridge , but I think Scotland appear in an English/UK cricket lower county League as a club (as well as a national team). But England are the big boys and cricket is one of the few sports Scots fans support England in. I'm not a cricket fan at all I was just surprised a few years ago to hear that Scotland were in the Cricket World cup so looked into it lol

  6. Shows how out of touch on certain things I am, McS 'cos although I knew some Scots like cricket, I never knew we had our own side. Sectarian-free I hope.

  8. I don't get any of them, McS. Running about and working up a sweat? Where's the fun in that I ask you? And watching them is even more tiring.

    1. Hahah the first time I went to the UK it was summertime. Three tv stations . One wasn’t on air. One had cricket. Ever since cricket on tv has traumatized me. On the other hand, I find going in person much better.
Much like baseball, you can watch the fielders change position depending on the batter ( batsman) and who is hurling the ball. Whereas on tv all you see the the static shot of the of pitcher ( bowler). Plus you can to laze around eat snacks and look at people . Remember people ?
Those creatures we used to look at before the great disaster?

  9. Here in Wales there's a county cricket club called Glamorgan which has existed since the 19th century I think and they play in the English cricket league which is governed by the England & Wales Cricket Board. But there's no Wales cricket team and Welsh cricket players are expected to play for England, not England & Wales just England - a humiliation which the meek Welsh just accept without question. If Scotland and Northern Ireland leave the UK in the near future I hope the Welsh will start standing up for themselves or the new country of England & Wales will be called England with the Saint George's cross as its' flag!

  10. Oh, you're a rebel, CJ, and no mistake. MI6 will have you under observation for sure. Me? I like being British and wouldn't have it any other way.

Kamandi, how ya been? Haven't seen you in an age. Must confess that I prefer lazing around and eating snacks to looking at people. Not really into cricket, but I think I'd prefer it to baseball.
