Comics royalty ROY THOMAS arranged to have a complimentary copy of AlterEgo #161 sent to me on account of it giving me a brief mention, and it's a belter of an issue, commemorating the life of 'Mr. MARVEL', STAN LEE. It's good to see anti-Stan hater (to an obsessive degree) Michael Hill getting a good gubbing from Roy in the letters section, though Roy does it with far more grace, style, and courtesy than I'd have managed.
As far as the anti-Stan-ites are concerned, anything Lee ever said that doesn't unconditionally admit that his artists did everything but the dialogue is a deep-dyed lie.
ReplyDeleteMost of these people overlook that when Kirby and Ditko (that other "Big Two") began doing work independent of Lee, they pretty much deserted the sort of characterization Lee favored.
And their stories suffered as a result of it, GP. I never found anything that Ditko did after leaving Marvel (his Creepy & Eerie work apart) anywhere near as interesting or as entertaining (or as good to look at) as Spider-Man or Dr. Strange, and though Kirby was still full of ideas after he departed Marvel, they was nowhere near as good or as well-executed (or as fulfilling) as his collaborative work with Stan.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you.
Holiday wishes to you as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks, GP. Keep on truckin'.
