The people who think the moon landing was fake are usually the same ones who believe that professional wrestling is real.
ReplyDeleteGasp! You mean it isn't?!
ReplyDelete(I knew wrestling was fake even when I was a kid, TC, but my grandparents seemed to think it was real.)
I do think there is something in some conspiracy theories thst should be looked into but these folk take them to extremes. As far as the moon landing goes of course we did it their reason for it not happening have all been countered.
ReplyDeleteAnd the Russians, who were monitoring events, would've been the first to cry foul had they not observed the rocket en voyage.
ReplyDeleteKid, Kid, Kid....the Russians were in on it too...so easy to reply to.
ReplyDeleteNah, doesn't stand up to the slightest scrutiny, BS. With the Cold War going on, it would have been a huge propaganda victory for them to be able to claim that the Americans hadn't done it.
ReplyDeleteSo easy to dismiss.
A few years ago NASA made a 3-D map of the moon by bouncing lasers off the surface (or something) and the landscape at the Apollo landing site was identical to the photos taken in 1969, proving the authenticity of the moon landing (not that I ever doubted it).
ReplyDeleteBut it's curious how Neil Armstrong said: "One small step for Man, one giant leap for Mankind" because "Man" and "Mankind" meant the same thing. Did he mean to say "One small step for A man?"
By the way, I had a letter printed in the Radio Times dated July 21-27 1984, which had an astronaut on the cover because the issue was celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Apollo landing.
Man on the moon.. No way!... The Earth flat... No question.. Kennedy shot by the mafia.. For certain... Elvis living in Glasgow.. Definitely..Princess Diana murdered..???? Conspiracy Theories. A crackpots conversation piece.
ReplyDeleteI read somewhere a couple or so years back, CJ, that NASA was claiming that Armstrong did indeed say 'One small step for a man...', but audio dropout (or some such thing) lost the 'a'. Whether that's true or not is anybody's guess I suppose.
ReplyDelete******
You mean Elvis DOESN'T live in Glasgow, LH? Then who was the guy with the quiff and the lip curl who I was talking to at the bus stop last week?
I've just gone back and toned down some of the language and expressions I put in my initial typing of my comment to this one - conspiracy theorists really make me see red, and especially the feeble-minded sheep who pick such suggestions and run off bleating the word to any who'll listen - to these people I say look at the facts and think for yourself! My biggest gripe with conspiracy nuts is that they are quite ready to question these topics but will roll over and quite unquestioningly go along with all of the stunts and shenanigans (gee I really cleaned that up) that governments, local authorities and corporations manipulate them with on a daily basis. For someone like me whose only religion is science that moon landing business...well don't get me started!!
ReplyDeleteI wish you would get started, PC, because your comments are always worth reading. I believe the moon landing happened, but I can see why some people might doubt it. For example, look at the photo on the cover of RT. You can see the reflection of the astronaut taking the photo and there seems to be a very narrow area behind him. In fact, it really looks like a limited studio set. I'd imagine the moon to be quite large, but if that's how it looks then that's how it is. Like I say though - I can see why some people would have reservations. (And Elvis does live in Glasgow.)
ReplyDeleteThese conspiracy theorists get my goat. Don’t forget we saw the rockets liftoff and disappear into the sky. There were several missions to the moon. You’re telling me they were all fake? Pfft.
ReplyDeleteHey we just had an earthquake . Watch it on the news.
I would say more but there are any number of very good videos on You Tube that debunk the absurd conspiracy theories point by point, and in particular one by the great Neil deGrasse Tyson (a hero of mine). Really don't feel like expending the mental energy to argue against the absurdity of it all - for one how could the thousands of people involved from various parts of the world (including the satellite dish at Parkes here in Australia) all be party to a co-ordinated attempt to hoodwink the rest of the world. The illogical aspect of it defies belief and I really am perplexed that people buy into this! But then the stupidity of certain sections of the population never ceases to amaze me!
ReplyDeleteYou don't need to convince me, PS & PC. I remember watching a programme a few years ago (similar to the one you mention, PC) which went through each objection to the moon landings and showed how they (the objections) didn't bear up to scrutiny. I'm just stirring the pot a little because it's my duty as host to provide subjects for contemplation and discussion. Mainly, however, I really did this post just to show that great Radio Times cover.
ReplyDeleteWhat's that Jeri... You saw Elvis too.
ReplyDeleteJeri - get off the 'phone to LH. Yes, I know he Skyped you, but you'll only encourage him.
ReplyDeleteOnce upon a time every kid wanted to be an Astronaut. Now the US can’t even put a man on space without paying the Russians to do it. I was listening to a podcast about NASA. Did you know the average age of an engineer working at NASA was 21 when the program started . Also most of them were from the Midwest and not from Ivy League schools. Smart enough to get the job done and not too smart to know it couldn’t be down if you know what I mean.
ReplyDeleteYou mean they weren't discouraged by what seemed impossible? Isn't Trump talking about reviving the space programme? Of course, he says a lot, then seems to change his mind. Shame he couldn't change it for a better one.
