Hard to believe that it's been 80 years since SUPERMAN made his debut in ACTION COMICS #1, cover-dated June 1938. Here are the variant covers of the landmark 1000th issue, not counting exclusive store variants (apart from maybe the 10th one). So which one did you buy? (The comic went on sale in April I believe.)
Below, the one that started it all - the very first issue.
All rather 'meh,' but I like the Saucer-Jockeys one. At least it has a sense of humour.
ReplyDeleteI like the '30s, '60s and '80s covers, and the Steranko one isn't bad. Overall, I prefer the Steve Rude issue though.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely loved the covers on this special issue. But sadly when I opened the book up the artwork inside left me as cold as a dead fish. There was nothing in the book that attracted me to it, so much to my own surprise I left this historic comic on the shelves. Still those are great covers!

I really just bought it for the historical significance, RJ, and for the 'unpublished' Curt Swan Superman story. Quite enjoyed one or two of the strips inside as well, but it certainly wasn't the 'ultimate' anniversary issue by any means. Still, at least he's got his red trunks back. He just didn't look right without them.
