THE TOAD CAME HOME (AGAIN)...

Thought all my fellow Crivs might like to see this great Mr. TOAD porcelain figurine by WADE, which I acquired through eBay recently for a (surprisingly) few paltry quid.  It's based on a drawing by E.H. SHEPARD and captures it perfectly.  I thought it would be around two and a half inches high, like the other Wade figurines I have in my collection, but it's actually closer to twice that height.  Wotta bargain!

  1. I had Wind in the Willows wall paper when I was a kid... must have had it for 5-7 years but when they removed it my request to save a piece was forgotten. For years I wished I had a section of it, I googled it a few times hoping to at least find a picture of it. Nothing, that was 25 years ago, guess what my parents found under the stairs last year? That's right! An entire roll of it! Happy Days! :)

  2. I'd love to see that if possible, AJ. Any chance of you doing a post on it and including photos of it, or even a scan of a section? Mr. Toad says he wants to see it too, so how can you refuse?

  3. The motor car went parp, parp, parp, parp as it raced along the road. Who was it steered it into a ditch. Ingenious Mr Toad..... What a masterpiece. J Thaddeus Toad at his best. Love it.

  4. Id like to, because I am genuinely pleased to have it after all this time! It has the makings of a post doesn't it? I was thinking of cutting a section, framing it and hanging it in my studio (I even have a section of my old carpet!) I’ll see what I can do sir, Id be interested to see what you think of it! Keep a look out :)

  5. Actually, it went 'Poop! Poop! Poop!' as it raced along the road, LH, but 'poop' has a different meaning these days, so we'd better settle for 'parp'. (Wait a minute - that means something different also. Ah, well...) Have you ever read any of the 'sequels' to The Wind In The Willows? There's also a book by Jan Needle called Wild Wood, which relates the events of TWITW from the point of view of the stoats and weasels. Well-worth reading.

Sure will, AJ. If I like the look of that wallpaper, I may offer to buy a section of it from you. I've got a bit of the wallpaper that used to hang in the hall before my family first moved into this house in 1972. The wallpaper was removed after we flitted in 1983, but I managed to get a bit of it from the people who moved in after us. I returned to the house in 1987 and have now been back here for 30 years. (Which is 19 years longer than I lived here the first time.)

  6. This paper is from 1983...Right, I’ve framed and mounted it now and as requested I have posted it on my site for you to see sir. http://arfonjones.blogspot.co.uk/2017/10/my-wind-in-willows-wall-paper-1985.html on closer inspection it consisted mostly of off cuts, the final roll that I have is missing some of the left side (must have been where the decorator ran out of wall) hope you like it!

  7. Took a look, left a comment, AJ. Looks great, and had I known about it at the time, I'd have bought some rolls and decorated my room with them. Still, I've had the same Wind In The Willows calendar hanging in my room since 1977 so that's sort of a decoration.
