A cascading cornucopia of cool comics, crazy cartoons, & classic collectables - plus other completely captivating & occasionally controversial contents. With nostalgic notions, sentimental sighings, wistful wonderings, remorseful ruminations, melancholy musings, rueful reflections, poignant ponderings, & yearnings for yesteryear. (And a few profound perplexities, puzzling paradoxes, & a bevy of big, beautiful, bedazzling, buxom Babes to round it all off.)

This was my intro to the Avengers, via Marvel Triple Action in the mid 70's. To me, it is EPIC indeed. 😎
ReplyDeleteYeah, G, I've got a couple of issues of MTA - nice little reprint mag. I first read these stories in a comic called Terrific back in the late '60s, and again in Avengers weekly in the '70s. Now I've got them in Masterworks, Omnibus and Epic volumes, as well as a few original issues.
ReplyDeleteI was kind of goofy, Kid. When I started reading Marvel, I started with all the reprints....>MTA, Marvel's Greatest Comics (Fantastic Four), Marvel Tales (Spidey), and Marvel Spectacular (Thor). I did that for about a year before I started trying to read the new stories.
ReplyDeleteI was once upon a time an Avengers completist. I have the full run of the original series and I have pretty much every reprint volume up until about 2007 or so. Since then it's been a bit more sketch, but as I've said before these Epic books are mighty handsome indeed and the value is undeniable. Avengers #40 which is in this one was my very first Avengers regular comic. I own an original Don Heck page from that book.
ReplyDeleteRip Off
I've got a bundle of the reprint titles, G - Marvel Collectors' Item Classics (which was later renamed Greatest Comics), Marvel Tales, Marvel Super-Heroes, MTA, Marvel Spectacular, etc. Every one a stoater.

That sounds like a great collection you have, RJ. If you could see me now, you'd think I was doing a Hulk impression. ('Cos I'm all green.)
