I've got a SEVANS DALEK - I've shown it on the blog before, though I don't think I identified it as such. Anyway, here's an old clip from kids TV show BLUE PETER, wherein STUART EVANS explains just how his superior vac-form model kits came about. His prototype is a bit rough, but the finished product is a nice little item.

Great to see that clip, quite a bit longer than I thought it would be but that's fine - can't have too much Dalek action I reckon. Just bought another 5inch Dalek last week but I wouldn't mind one of those larger ones. I imagine that these days they are rare and or super expensive! Daleks seem to be like Pringles to a lot of collectors - you can't stop at just one.

ReplyDeleteI found another 60s model with a black top, which you seem to be able to pick up for much less than the same thing with a silver top. Quick coat of silver paint, as I did, and you have another one in silver and blue for less than buying one that way. Hadn't plan to add another one but it was at a good price, so with a bit of DIY...
ReplyDeleteYou might be interested to know, PC, that there are some Marx bump'n'go Daleks (& some Dapol reissues) on eBay at the moment. Some are ridiculously expensive, some more reasonable. Some look as if they have repro appendages, 'though it's not mentioned in the descriptions.

ReplyDeleteYup, they were, BS. The bits had to be cut out, shaped (in some instances), sanded and glued together. I'll add a picture of mine in a few minutes.
