A cascading cornucopia of cool comics, crazy cartoons, & classic collectables - plus other completely captivating & occasionally controversial contents. With nostalgic notions, sentimental sighings, wistful wonderings, remorseful ruminations, melancholy musings, rueful reflections, poignant ponderings, & yearnings for yesteryear. (And a few profound perplexities, puzzling paradoxes, & a bevy of big, beautiful, bedazzling, buxom Babes to round it all off.)

Whilst I wasn't the biggest fan of Boring, at least this is Superman. He's the guy who believes in truth, Justice and the American way. Not the one everyone hates and fears because he's an alien.
ReplyDeleteI don't quite know who Superman is anymore. Nor do I find myself much caring, if I'm honest. Well done DC.
ReplyDeleteThere was an artist called Wayne Boring ??...hold on, I've done that one. Because I didn't grow up with DC I don't have any problems with the movie versions because I don't really know how they are "supposed to be". I watched Man Of Steel on DVD and I quite enjoyed it even as everyone else was screaming "this isn't Superman !!!"
ReplyDeleteI don't think any of the subsequent Superman movies have been as thoroughly entertaining as the 1978 one, CJ. I liked some of the scenes in Superman Returns, but overall it was a bit of a disappointment. Man Of Steel? Okay I suppose, but it didn't set my wig on fire. Haven't seen Batman Vs. Superman.
ReplyDeleteTake some tranquilisers first or you might blow a gasket. BvS wasn't a bad movie. But talk about not understanding Superman.
DeleteI heard that, at over two and a half hours long, it WAS a tranquiliser 'cos it put people to sleep. I'll watch it when it comes on telly.
ReplyDeleteI could never get past Boring's 'barrel-chest' styling, it made the man-of-steel look like man-of-beef to me.
ReplyDeleteThe Wayne Boring illustration you posted here:

is much better proportions, and a child-like innocence to the character. I wonder why he didn't keep to that style?
Who knows? Editorial direction? Natural evolution of style? I like Wayne Boring's art, but it was a bit stiff in places and his composition could sometimes be rather - er, 'boring' compared to later standards. However, back then, comics were primarily for kids so it hardly mattered.
