RECOMMENDED READING: DICK BRIEFER'S FRANKENSTEIN & IRON FIST EPIC COLLECTION...

All you really need to know about this great book is on the back cover, so I won't hit you with any redundant waffle from my good self.  I first read about DICK BRIEFER's FRANKENSTEIN comicbooks back in 1977, in The FRANKENSTEIN FILE, a book edited by PETER HAINING.  There was a chapter by DENIS GIFFORD, in which he admitted ripping off Briefer's version of the monster for CRASH COMICS #1, although he rechristened him KRANKENSTEIN, The Monster Funster. However, visually, he was a carbon copy of the U.S. PRIZE COMICS original.

Next up, comes MARVEL's EPIC COLLECTION of IRON FIST.  Again, read the back cover (below) for all the relevant info.  Both these books are doubtless available in your local comics store or book shop, so pop right along to either of them today and treat yourself to at least one of them.  You'll be glad you did!  So what're you waiting for?  Get going.

  1. Have the Frankenstein book, it's a dandy. I have the Iron Fist stories now only an Essentials volume having traded off my originals. The Epic volume looks quite handsome.

  2. If the Iron Fist collection does begin with the Marvel Premiere issues, then credits are missing on the cover for the strip's creators - Roy Thomas and Gil Kane :-(
    Byrne and co came later...

  3. It is, Rip - and in full colour, too, which is an advantage over The Essentials volumes.

I guess most of the stories are by the three cover names, Cer. Or maybe it's because they're the guys most associated with the character. (Or it's simply an oversight.)

  4. Roy never wrote another Iron Fist story. (I'm reading his 2014 interview in Alter-ego). That's Saber Tooth on the back cover. He was originally an iron Fist villain.

  5. Just read the first story last night, Phil. Not too bad at all.
