"Just what we've been waiting for!" I hear you all cry - yet another ten cataclysmic covers from The FANTASTIC FOUR comic by STAN LEE and JACK KIRBY. Featuring issues # 31 to 40, my personal favourites from out the bunch are the last two. How about you lot? Which ones ring your bell the most? Tell us why in our ever-lovin' comments section.
Eventually, we'll work our way through all 102 FF Kirby covers of the '60s, so that's something to look forward to.

I'm a big fan of the Chic Stone era on the FF, his spin on Kirby's pencils has a vitality, that for all the drama Sinnott later brought never matched.

"Behold A Distant Star"...I remember reading The Titans No. 41 when the FF fought the Kree sentry and Neil Armstrong became the "first" man on the moon and I thought hold on, the FF had already been to the moon and indeed halfway across the galaxy before Armstrong had even blasted off from Cape Canaveral - even as a naive 10 year-old I could see how illogical that was !
ReplyDeleteIt's all very simple, CJ - let me explain it to you. FF is a comic and didn't actually happen - real life did.
ReplyDeleteActually, the FF first went to the moon in issue #13. I assume Reed Richards didn't bother telling NASA (so as not to blow The Watcher's base), so as far as they were concerned, Armstrong was the first man on the moon. In fact, as the FF are super-powered beings, it could be argued that NA was indeed the first ordinary representative of the human race to step foot on the surface.
Remember, CJ - it's only a bloody comic.
You mean the FF aren't real ??? I thought everything in the comic had actually happened !!!
