A cascading cornucopia of cool comics, crazy cartoons, & classic collectables - plus other completely captivating & occasionally controversial contents. With nostalgic notions, sentimental sighings, wistful wonderings, remorseful ruminations, melancholy musings, rueful reflections, poignant ponderings, & yearnings for yesteryear. (And a few profound perplexities, puzzling paradoxes, & a bevy of big, beautiful, bedazzling, buxom Babes to round it all off.)

I have very fond memories of this publication, it probably filled a similar role in my younger years as TV21 did for you, and being one of the few, if not only, UK weeklies of this sort to filter through to us here in Australia is was a bit of a beacon for fans of the series it covered in comic form. Being a major fan of Doctor Who and UFO at the time it really spoke to me. Had every issue at one time which is alas not the case these days. How much time do people of a certain age (who grew up in the 60s and 70s) spend trying to reclaim items we had then but didn't hang onto, eh? And there by some element of proxy reclaim part of our youth perhaps, or at least a trigger for the memories of those, often fondly remembered, times. Wasn't a fan of the format change over the years, with the downgrade in paper quality and dropping of more UK strips for adaptations of US series (most of which did not interest me). At least I still have a handful of issues and some clipped out pages. Good to be reminded of this one again.
ReplyDeleteI was still young enough for this comic to fill the same role in my life that TV21 did, but I didn't start buying it until the comic started reprinting stories from TV21. The middle bit of your comment is extremely profound, PC, and is the ethos of this blog. (When I'm not fending off attacks from a few nutters, that is.)
ReplyDeleteRaleigh Choper! I had one. Great fun not such a good bike because in real life it was slow since it didn't have gears. I remember the comic but I don't remember reading it.
ReplyDeleteI never had a bike, Phil, but I seem to remember that the Chopper had gears, which the rider changed via a lever on the crossbar, in front of the saddle.
ReplyDeleteYeah one whole gear! Lol I meant real ten speed
ReplyDeleteOoh, now you're getting technical and I have no idea what you're talking about. I only ever had a tricycle and they definitely don't have gears.
ReplyDeleteI never had a bike either but I learned to ride one by using a spare bike that belonged to a neighbour kid. They say you never forget how to ride a bike - I wonder if that's true as I haven't been on one since 1991 (when I was 25).
ReplyDeleteMy brother had a bike, CJ, and I fell off it a couple of times, but I was never consumed by a desire to master the art of riding one. When you can fly, there are greater pleasures to be had.
