Moreover, it shows Sue wearing the proper FF outfit, and with her hair done right, before John Byrne got to her with the scissors.
ReplyDeleteWhen I started reading the Fantastic Four Sue was just a mother, so despite her beauty (which Kirby rendered with aplomb) I never considered her much of a hottie until later. Her early FF forays feature her squeamishness, but other writers, especially Tom DeFalco found her edge and played it up nicely.

BS, one of the very few things I didn't like about Byrne's FF was the hairstyle he initially gave Sue when he took over as regular writer and artist. (The other being Johnny marrying 'Alicia'.) Having said that, Kirby gave her a dodgy hairstyle for a while that I didn't like either.

Paul Ryan rendered her rather nicely, Rip. In fact, it rather renewed my crush on her - and I was a grown up (allegedly). Haven't seen the new FF movie yet, but I preferred Jessica Alba as Sue compared to whoever's playing her now.
I've just been reading Hulk Vol.3 which briefly features the Invisible Girl (oops - she's the Invisible Woman these days) and she's got that horrible short hairstyle a la John Byrne again. This image is very Kirbyesque and shows Sue at her best with long hair.

ReplyDeleteThe new ff films is so bad, so deeply engulfed in it's tatty rubbishness, that it had to be deliberate. I think they only made it to hold on to the rights and so they made a stinker to ensure the comics wouldn't get anything positive in terms of sales.
ReplyDeleteNo point in holding on to the rights, DSE, if they're going to throw away millions in making a movie that no one wants to see. As for the comic, FF was cancelled before the movie was even released. They should try just sticking to the original comic, rather than tinkering with things.
ReplyDeleteMillions? Well the film looks as though they spent about £300 on it. I suppose it must be the cost of those caviare lunches at the production meets.
