FABULOUS FLASHBACK - HOOT #1

Images copyright D.C. THOMSON & Co, Ltd

HOOT #1 was published in 1985 and the comic managed 53
issues over the course of a year before merging with THE DANDY.
However, rather than tell you about it, why don't I show you?  Here's
the complete first issue for your edification and entertainment.  It
may have run for only 12 months, but it was a 'hoot' while it lasted.
(Contender for the most obvious pun of the year award.)

  1. My havourite feature in this comic is The Hoot Squad.

  2. Ken H. Harrison if I'm not mistaken, Irmantas. Quality always stands out.

  3. I like Hoot - a lot. It seems to've been mostly forgotten by DC Thomson (never appearing in the "Beano & Dandy" annuals or even Classics From The Comics), but there's a lot of energy throughout. The Hoot Squad's fantastic, and Dave Mostyn's in it as well!

I got the full run of them for a very cheap price in a 2nd-hand-shop late last year, this made me very happy.

Those are some high-quality scans you've got there, by the way!

  4. Taken from my own copy of #1, THB. I only have 1 & 3, having missed #2 for some reason at the time. I might track down #2 to complete the first three issues one day.

  5. Got a few doubles, but not the 2nd issue, unfortunately. If you're interested in copies of issues 5, 11, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 or 25, you're welcome to them.

  6. Thanks, THB, but I'd decided to get only the first 3 when the comic first came out anyway, so it's only #2 I need at the moment. Perhaps when I've filled gaps in other collections I might turn my attention to Hoot! Thanks anyway. I'll buy your Birthday Book for Boys '72 'though, if you've still got it and it's in good nick.

  7. Another comic I used to own gratefully received. But how COULD DC Th. only give the Bad Lads & Col. Blink a mere strip each?!

  8. They were just used as space-fillers, JP, although there may have been some advertising benefit (for The Beezer and The Topper) which DCT intended to exploit, perhaps.
