ARE YOU A SATISFIED CUSTOMER?

Copyright REBELLION

"Keep the customer satisfied" runs the old saying - and I do my best to keep all my 'customers' satisfied by trying to write posts that are worth reading.  I'm quite sure I haven't always achieved that goal, but it's honestly not for want of trying on my part. It might amaze you to learn that hosting a blog is a 'hit-or-miss' affair, as it's never easy to judge with any certainty just what might interest the readers.

Sometimes I'm surprised by the hits an average post might get, and often I'm equally disappointed to see that no one seems much interested in what I may regard as a masterpiece (for me, that is).  Take JOHNNY FUTURE for example.  One particular post might receive numerous visits, but the next instalment only receives half as many.  How do I account for it?  The fact is, I can't.  One would think that all the people who visited the previous post would keep an eye out for the next one, but it doesn't seem to work like that.

So, all I can do is do my best - and hope that, in the long run, most visitors find at least one post that makes dropping in on this blog worthwhile.  It always helps to get feedback, because that lets me know just which posts have gone down well with the readers.  You see, hits alone don't really prove anything, as a good dollop of them may result from folks dropping in by accident - and then dropping right out again.

So, if you enjoy any of my future posts, feel free to leave a comment telling me what you like about them.  And if there should be any you don't enjoy, feel free to tell me about them as well.  That'll help me to try harder in my efforts to inform, enthral and entertain you all.  (You can't accuse me of lacking ambition, now can you? "Shoot for the moon" I always say!)

In fact, why not leave a comment right now?

  1. Yeah I'm pretty happy, a nice mix of eclectic interests, personal observations and the odd useful review like that Thor post. That's what blogs are about really.

  2. I liked this post!

Seriously I am looking forward to seeing more Mighty World of Marvel covers - as we approach the debut of the Avengers.

  3. KId, your blog is one of about two dozen I check on a more or less daily basis (gotta squeeze a life in there somewhere!)and every post is read. Not all receive a comment because I don't feel I should add one when I really don't know anything about the topic (as with the recent shenanigans - didn't want to catch any stray bullets either!)and anything to say about it for a variety of reasons - but rest assured that doesn't mean that they go unappreciated! I admire your dedication and enthusiasm in providing such regular posts, some of the regulars I check go for long periods with nothing but a dusty tumbleweed blowing through them! Count me as one satisfied customer and I'll always have something to say about Johnny and Frankie at least.

  4. DSE, I readily confess that it's odd to find a useful review on this blog. Hee hee.

Chris, more Marvel covers coming in the not too distant future.

Phil, remind me - what's a life? I seem to have mislaid mine. Regarding certain recent posts, I don't really do ones like that to invite comment or involve others anyway. I do them purely to supply the facts when other people are disseminating lies. Glad to hear you enjoy the other stuff.

  5. I'd like to see more comic nostalgia and less about your personal arguments with other people. As a suggestion, did you ever read the DC Thompson adventure comics such as Victor? What did you think of them?

  6. I'd also like to see less about my arguments with other people - but if they insist on using forums and Twitter sites to hurl insults and spread lies and distortions, then I'm not going to let that pass unchallenged.

Victor? Nice little comic of its type, but I was never much of a fan of war and sports stories, to be honest. I bought the odd one from time to time, as well as Warlord, Crunch, Spike, etc. I'm more of a superheroes type reader.

Note to the 'Stormy' one - you can stop trying, you're not getting published. Now go away.

  7. Would like to see more posts on UK /US comics and artists like Ken Reid, Leo Baxendale, Tom Kerr, Alex Toth etc etc I enjoyed the 2 recent Superman posts and would especially like to read more like that - Im not a "toy" fan so not so keen on them but do read em especially if I recall the toys - re controversy issue, not a big fan of that either as I never know the background and it all seems a bit silly arguing about comics etc. BUT I have to say I do find some of your replies really funny and well constructed so I have to admit reading them and on more than one occasion following it all with more than a healthy dose of interest (not that Im advocating this but I heard from a friend of a friend's dog that a certain Captain called you "looks like he's been dooking for apples in a chip pan" you gonna stand for that !!?? lol McScotty

  8. McScotty, as he conceals his own real name and face, I think we can safely assume that he's no oil painting - unless it's Dorian Gray's. And if you read his comments on my 'Superman - Out of the closet?' post, then you'll know he's barking.

  9. kid, i see your point. i read all the comments here and its only the rude ones you go at. less than handsome and leave the professionals, all that stuff is just insults not feedback. but i think you shouldnt publish them instead of replying. there trying to pull your string.

  10. Exactly, Anon. It was probably the same person, in fact (a couple at most), under the guise of a plethora of 'Anons', trying to 'kick the dog', so 'it' can be accused of being aggressive when it barks. I've now deleted the insulting posts (and a few that were dubious), as well as my replies, in order to thwart any devious intention. A request for feedback isn't the same thing as an invitation for insults, despite a few curious suggestions to the contrary.

As you noted, any commenters, even those expressing a dislike of certain posts, were treated with respect when they were not trying to use the opportunity to slip a sly dig at me under the radar. It's also significant that quite a few of those now-deleted comments were left AFTER I published subsequent blog posts, which the commenters chose to ignore in their pursuit of pot-stirring.

Captain 'Nick', you can pose as however many people you like, but you still ain't getting published.

  11. I wasn't rude, confrontational or aggressive. But you deleted mine. :-(

    Antony.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Antony, you're right, but someone else was distorting part of your comment in support of their own rudeness. I deleted their comment and my response to it, so it seemed easier to delete yours too in order to prevent anyone else misusing it for their own ends. Hope you understand.

  13. So, as part of McScotty's comment was equally offensive, why does it stay?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Oooops, apologies if anyone took my comment re the "chip pan" as offensive. It is perhaps a tad too Glaswegian for most non Weegies = so no one said anything about anyone I kinda thought it implied and I was jut being a bit of a wee bissum - sorry again, - saying that, re controversy this post proves a point that Kid's (and other) blogs seem to get more hits / feedback from things like this than others = McScotty

    ReplyDelete
  15. McScotty, anyone taking offence at your innocent and transparently humorous comment is just looking to take offence at anything to do with this blog simply because it's mine. And then they say that they have no agenda, eh?

    ******

Well, the Cap has now used another three names to send insulting messages which still aren't getting published, and the person who obsesses over me so much that they keep quoting my words back at me has indicated they know my address and says that I'll no doubt be watching my windows.

Guess what, loser? I won't lose a moment's sleep worrying, 'cos you're not up to it, and, if you were, I can track you if I need to through your IP address. Back to unread oblivion for you from now on - you're in the minor league.

Wow! there are some seriously disturbed people out there who need to learn to live with their inadequacies.

  16. As well as being satisfied with the content of your blog, which I stumbled upon one day whilst pondering the question:- " I wonder if anyone else remembers Power comics....", I am also gratified to receive a friendly and personal reply to every single comment I make! Cheers, Kid, you're my mate!

  17. At last! Another well-balanced person, who always has something sensible to say. Thanks, JP.

(I still think the decent readers outnumber the nutters, who are probably only three guys at most with too much time on their hands. 20 anonymous comments doesn't always add up 20 individual commenters.)

    ReplyDelete
  18. WELL-BALANCED? ME? I do.'t think my missus would necessarily agree with that description of me! I'm 60-going-on-17, obsessive-compulsive, my head is FULL of comics and music from the past, which I.constantly enthuse about, I love wallowing in nostalgia. She says all of us online comic-heads are "like a bunch of little kids who have never grown up!" To which I argue, "No! These people are EXPERTS!!" Well I take it as a compliment. Who the hell wants to grow up anyway? And why should we deny ourselves these BEAUTIFUL things, which I for one, appreciate much more now I've gotten older. Here's to these nice things!! ( Wonder why I feel so at home coming here? )

  19. I may not comment all that much, matey, but I keep finding myself back here, and I don't visit THAT many blogs at all these days, so I'm guessing you must be doing something right.

more Mike Noble is never a bad thing. maybe the Timeslip stuff he did for Look-In? haven't seen those in years.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Always good to see you, Joe - hope you're keeping well. I think I've got some Timeslip strips somewhere, but it'll be a good while before I can dig them out. One day, Joe, one day.
