JOURNEY INTO BLOGGERY...

"Yeah...I'm lookin' at YOU!"

While we're waiting for the final instalment of BUSTER, SON OF ANDY CAPP, permit me to make a brief detour.

Sometimes I despair of some of my fellow bloggers.  Presenting themselves as fair, open-minded enquirers after truth who welcome all forms of diverse opinion to theirs (in regard to subjects on which they themselves have invited comment), they then reveal themselves to be biased, small-minded extremists who don't really want to hear what others have to say - unless it's to tell them just how right they are on whatever they happen to be banging on about at the moment.

If someone is going to raise a controversial issue on their blog then they should be prepared to receive some controversial replies - ones they might even be offended by.  However, I've often found that when a person claims to find a point of view offensive, what they're actually offended by is the idea of someone having an opinion contrary to their own.  (How very dare they!)

The fact is, some people just don't like to be disagreed with - especially when they're simply not very good at defending their propositions to begin with.  And that's regardless of whether said proposition is absurd, questionable, or entirely reasonable.  One thing I've learned from bloggerland is that, very often, when someone asks a question, the only answer they're interested in hearing is the one upon which they've already decided.  It seems that everyone else's purpose is simply to support their fragile and insecure belief in themselves.

Feel free to agree or disagree - I won't be offended.

  2. No name, no pack-drill. Those who have experienced the same thing will have no difficulty in appreciating my point of view.

  5. Well Kiddo a number of us in a certain coffee bar are rightly PISSED OFF that you make these "I'm in the right the rest of the 'net is agin' me" announcements without backing it up. I'd clue you in more but I need my cocoa. Savvy?

  6. Aha, but are you sure you're only drinking cocoa? Never said I was necessarily in the right - only that it seems to be a common occurrence on the blogosphere for some people to take umbrage when someone disagrees with them.

If they can't stand the pace, then they shouldn't run the race.

  7. Sorry Gordie. Please delete my comments if you choose as they make us look rather foolish. You knowww?

  8. I don't necessarily agree with your use of the word "us", but I'll let them stand. A little levity never hurt anyone. And why worry about looking foolish? You're anonymous.

  10. Not necessarily when it suits ME - only sometimes when I think others should be spared the fruitless exercise of reading them. There was one recently which gave details of a link - when I Google-searched it, the choices offered were all of a dubious sexual nature, so I deleted it. And no, I didn't visit any of them.

Right, you've had your cocoa - off to bed with you.

  11. Sorry but It just looks like you make it up when you blog about people who disagree with you without giving links. I like the other posts you do, thats really interesting. Keep that up please.

  12. Enough people are already aware of these instances - without me having to supply links - to know that I'm not making things up. I just don't believe in giving them extra publicity. Those who've seen them will know what I'm referring to, and those that haven't don't need to in order to appreciate my point of view.

  14. And you're perfectly entitled to believe what you want.

  15. I understand why you dont post example or evidence..it only encourages tit for the tat.

I like to comment on the web on a variety of subjects, just recently I described ufo footage as 'obvious chinese lanterns'.
Now I have someone making constant comments on why I want to debunk the footage and even if I explain why I believe what I believe, the comments just keep coming back and forth..
And thats the thing ,back and forth, back and forth, tit for tat.
I just walked away, gave them the last word and that is that.

Dont present links or evidence, dont stir the pot.e stirrers.
It only serves to entertain those who are staring into the pot, like kids in school surrounding a fight and demanding blood.

  16. Very true. However, the main reason I don't give links is because I don't want to increase their traffic. I've found that it doesn't matter how polite and civil one might be, if someone doesn't like the fact that you hold a different opinion to them, they ban you from their site. My philosophy is - if you don't like the answers, don't ask the questions.
