("Split!") version in 1966. Then there was Marvel Super Heroes #12, about three years later, introducing Mar-vell. <br /><br />I knew about the original version from articles in the book All In Color For A Dime and in Larry Ivie's Monsters & Heroes fanzine, but had never read any of the comics themselves.<br /><br />My first encounter with the 1940's CM was when I saw the movie serial (and loved it) at a sci-fi convention in the 1970's. Then I bought some back issues of DC's Shazam at a local comic shop. Since then, for me, there's only one Captain Marvel, and that's Billy Batson. The first one I encountered was Mar-Vel when it came out. Next I discovered the M.F. Enterprises CM. Although I had heard there had been a golden age CM, it wasn't until DC brought him back in Shazam that I actually saw him for the first time.
