He's also just out to shock most of the time, even boasting that he doesn't care who he offends or who doesn't like him. That doesn't mean there isn't truth and insight in some of his observations, but he seems to be unaware that his comments apply equally to him as well as everyone else in showbusiness.

I'm a big Stan Lee fan as you know, but he didn't see any action, and never left America, whereas Jack Kirby was right in the thick of it and nearly lost his legs as a result. Having said that, though, the group you mentioned didn't have it as easy as today's younger generation.

What's the word they use to describe some of the current generation? Snowflakes. Too true.

Kidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07224781868125924337noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3740495193314269367.post-81304346795349612962020-01-08T00:46:58.580+00:002020-01-08T00:46:58.580+00:00Media elite live and work in echo chambers. Their ...Media elite live and work in echo chambers. Their lack of self-awareness is matched only by their total ignorance of anything that is going on outside of their enclaves.

The Golden Globe Awards the other night perfectly illustrated it. Ricky Gervais called out the stars, saying no one cares what you think, don't make political speeches, just thank your producer and your agent, and walk off. Then the award winners, in their acceptance speeches, proceeded to bloviate about climate change, abortion, and whatever else.

Also, today's entertainers and creators are relatively young, and have lived sheltered lives. Many attended liberal arts colleges, and have never worked in a real job outside of show business.

As for comic book creators, many of today's writers and artists are relatively young, and are part of Generation Entitlement. They think they are geniuses, and never encounter anyone who would tell them otherwise. Or, if you do, they block you from their social media.

Fortunately, most of the Silver Age creators-Lee, Kirby, Ditko, Gardner Fox, Julius Schwartz, Robert Kanigher, Gil Kane, Wally Wood, Carmine Infantino, and others-were middle-aged adults who had lived in the real world and worked in real jobs (including some like Lee and Kirby who had served in the military in WWII), and who had an adult's perspective.TChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13686814973788356726noreply@blogger.com
