That truly is 'one in a field of one', sadly.Kidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07224781868125924337noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3740495193314269367.post-49713763593475594872013-07-15T15:03:52.956+01:002013-07-15T15:03:52.956+01:00"Number one in a field of one" sadly app..."Number one in a field of one" sadly applies to a lot of comics now.Mr Straightmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15248257907210303372noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3740495193314269367.post-46799069458277895832013-07-14T10:55:50.838+01:002013-07-14T10:55:50.838+01:00Ah, Phil - Mort Drucker - now you're talking.Ah, Phil - Mort Drucker - now you're talking.Kidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07224781868125924337noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3740495193314269367.post-22617504327715277962013-07-14T04:45:28.117+01:002013-07-14T04:45:28.117+01:00Ah, the great Jack Davis - does his art ever remin...Ah, the great Jack Davis - does his art ever remind me of my school days!; cards, stickers and a particularly lurid purple book cover with ghastly creatures all over it. Loved it. The MAD I remember was full of Arogones' marginal cartoons, Don Martin's angular characters, Spy v Spy, the fold in picture and especially the art of Mort Drucker.PhilSeenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3740495193314269367.post-39111547958968360992013-07-13T21:25:17.066+01:002013-07-13T21:25:17.066+01:00Thing about the ads, THB, is that it helps pay for...Thing about the ads, THB, is that it helps pay for the colour within the mag these days. It's still number one in a field of one, I reckon. Shame it doesn't sell more.Kidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07224781868125924337noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3740495193314269367.post-59466220219262119412013-07-13T21:01:04.157+01:002013-07-13T21:01:04.157+01:00Good one, never seen the first issue! Got loads of the collected paperbacks and a fair few issues from the 1960s, but the early comic-format will always be where it's "at" for MAD.

Even the MAD cash-in titles were great, stuff like Cracked, Get Lost and Bananas... All good fun.

MAD these days is hit-and-miss. The masses of adverts are the first obvious turn-off, but then they also have amazing stuff by Tom Bunk, Sergio Aragones, and still the odd bit of Spy Vs. Spy. It's a comic/magazine that I'll always have a special place for.TwoHeadedBoyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14946450138433182058noreply@blogger.com
