(My dog wore a raincoat and was a member of polite society - she often took tea with me.) Oh, you do talk nonsense at times, CJ.Kidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07224781868125924337noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3740495193314269367.post-82031981017109447232015-12-25T14:21:07.807+00:002015-12-25T14:21:07.807+00:00But why do dog-walkers shout their dogs' names...But why do dog-walkers shout their dogs' names anyway ? The dogs don't understand their names. And it's not ironic with regard to Rupert because Rupert can talk and wears clothes and is clearly a member of polite society so it's obvious that he and his animal friends would have names. I think it's silly to have an animal and not give it a name. If every dog-walker in the park just shouted 'dog', confusion would reign. I thought it was funny when the Falklands were invaded and Adrian's dad gets in a complete panic thinking the Falklands are just off the coast then finds out they are 10,000 miles away (or whatever) and wonders what all the fuss is about - Sue Townsend perfectly satirizing the moronic masses who'd never heard of the bloody Falklands before Argentina invaded but demanded we get them back because they were "ours". I also loved that their dog was called "Dog" - because when I was a kid we had a cat and he never had a name - we just called him the cat. This didn't seem odd to me - to this day I still think giving animals names is a bit silly.
