WHITE CHRISTMAS - JIM REEVES...

Well, the day isn't quite over yet, so theoretically, it might still snow - somewhere.  JIM REEVES is certainly dreaming it will - and so am I.  How about you?

Two weeks ago we had heavy snowfall here - the first time for several years. Stomping through the snow filled me with a child-like glee but surprise, surprise the snow soon vanished.

Did you get one of those Christmas Coca-Cola mugs, Kid ? My local Tesco had loads of them - I bought a Bailey's Irish Cream mug too (actually, it just says Bailey's on the mug).

We had a light snowfall a few weeks back, but it didn't last at all. Never managed to get a mug, CJ, 'cos I haven't been in Tesco's since I don't know when. Got quite a few Coca Cola glasses though. One has a sort of 'stained glass' effect - got it at least 40 years ago.

I love the snow too,Colin, inconvenient though it can sometimes be. Its just such a beautiful sight to see snowflakes silently drifting through the air. The day that watching snow fall doesn't fill me with joy will be the day I know I've officially become old and dull!

I think I AM old and dull, DS, but I still love the snow.

Nah, this blog is never dull. One of my favorite winter memories is walking home from work late one snowy night, hardly a soul around, listening to my Walkman when the Led Zeppelin song No Quarter came on. It just seemed the perfect soundtrack to the weather and I remember stopping and watching the snow fall through the orange glow of a streetlight with No Quarter playing and it felt like a magical moment when everything was just right.

The blog, maybe not - me, probably. May we all have moments like that walking through the snow, DS - not necessarily to the same soundtrack though.

Dull ....None of us are dull...We are from a different era totally different to today..Im known as a boring old fart to my sons with my Comics and Cigarette cards and because I build model wooden ships. I have been told to get a life and get on an online dating line...ha ha me who has already been bankrupted once by the ex dear wife. Today is too commercial to what I came from...Even my poor next door neighbour had his rent put up on Christmas Eve.. Have a great boxing day Guys I will be no matter how boring I am heh

Yeah, Christmas is far too commercial these days, LH. What bugs me is when shops have their Christmas stock on display before even Hallowe'en and Guy Fawkes Night are out of the way. You stick with your comics, cigarette cards and wooden ship building - should the right new woman ever come along, she'll love you AND your hobbies.

Oh yes and as soon as January ends the Easter Eggs will start appearing

Already in my local shops, LH - bought a Creme Egg a couple of days back.

It was a magical moment back on December 10th, standing at my front door watching the snow falling by the glow of the street-lights. It was early on a Sunday morning so nobody was around and everything was still. Great Britain is on the same latitude as Canada but, thanks to the Gulf Stream, we are denied the snowy winters we should be getting at this northerly latitude...sigh. Kate Bush sang 'December Will Be Magic Again'...yeah, but only if it snows, Kate!

I sympathize with Lionel Hancock - my father always said it was important to have a hobby to keep the mind active, especially for old people. He built a wall-mounted pendulum clock which he gave to a neighbour. He was also building a model of Nelson's ship, The Victory, but he never finished it by the time he died in 1999.

A few years ago I was in Wilkinson's (now re-named Wilko) on Christmas Eve and they were clearing away the Christmas stock...to make way for the Easter eggs I assume! It was so depressing to see.

Now I'm off to watch the Dr. Who Xmas special on iplayer.

When I looked out of the window half an hour ago, CJ, I noticed it had been snowing, with a thin layer on the ground. It'll be interesting to see if it's still there when I get up later today. Did you ever think of trying to finish The Victory yourself, to complete your dad's last labour? (Incidentally, I've been aboard the real ship a number of times.) Let us know what you think of Dr. Who - I'm writing something about it at the moment.

Kid, my father's model of The Victory was nowhere near being finished and making model ships is not my cup of tea so it never crossed my mind to finish it myself. I burnt the model as a kind of Viking funeral.

I quite enjoyed Doctor Who but I'll save further comment until your post on the topic.

Which is now up, CJ, so if YOU still are, give it a read.
