KULL THE KING - BY JOHN SEVERIN...

Copyright MARVEL COMICS and CONAN PROPERTIES, Inc.

JOHN SEVERIN was one hell of an artist. I wish I had more examples of his published comics work as it was just a sheer joy to behold.  Here's a piccie of KING KULL he drew, I imagine back in the '70s, but I could be wrong.  Look at that lush pen & brush (?) work - it just doesn't get any better than that, amigos.

Brush work? I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that Severin's work always stood out because he used a pen, not a brush.

Another artist that seemed to take to Sword & Sorcery like a duck to water and do some of their best work (Smith, Buscema, etc). And not to overlook John's work for Cracked magazine. While not a huge Herb Trimpe fan I do like the early issues of the Hulk that were inked by JS.

You could well be right, BS, but I was really going for the poetry with 'lush brush'. Although, there does seem to be some brush work on the horse, but that effect can be the result of pens also. I'll amend it a little and hedge my bets.

I always preferred Herbe Trimpe's work when it was inked by Severin, PC. His inks gave the pencils something extra that they didn't possess on their own. Trimpe was a good storyteller 'though, which helps a lot in comics.
