PART EIGHT OF CADET DALEKS SWEET CIGARETTE CARDS FROM THE '60s...

Copyright BBC TV and the estate of TERRY NATION

Those who have been following this occasional series will be glad to see another five cards, and to learn that there are only ten more to go to complete the set.  Just think - that's only two more instalments until you can view all fifty cards in their entirety.  (If you've saved the previous ones, that is.)

And, as an added extra, the final part will also include one of the boxes that the cards came in.  Unfortunately, you'll have to provide your own sweet cigarettes.  Still, can't have everything, eh?

Wasn't it ridiculous that they stopped making sweet cigarettes in case they encouraged kids to smoke - by the same logic wine gums must encourage kids to drink ! I've never smoked a cigarette in my life but it's so hypocritical to attack smokers all the time. Only this morning I saw a discarded packet of ciggies that said on the front: "smoking harms you and others around you" - WELL SO DOES ALCOHOL !!! Why aren't bottles of booze required to carry health warnings too ?

I also have never smoked - or touched alcohol. Personally, I think the Yanks gave up too soon on prohibition - they should have atuck at it. (And we should've followed suit.)

And if you could only get hold of one of the shop boxes the packets came in...
Got to be the Holy Grail!

It's certainly worth a 'packet', JP. (See what I did there?)

Kid, the problem with prohibition is that it was a massive boost for organized crime - as is the banning of drugs now. I do drink myself ( in moderation) but I think alcohol is a far bigger menace to society than smoking but it's smokers that get demonised.

And it was still a massive boost for organised crime once it was legal, Col - but with no repercussions. It merely gave criminal overlords a 'legitimate' means by which to launder money from other dodgy enterprises. The best way to deal with crime is to crush it, not legalise it - as is all too often the case these days. But hark at me - on my soapbox again. No wonder people prefer Stan's.
