GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS: KEN REID'S JASPER THE GRASPER - PART FIVE...

Copyright REBELLION

The good news is that here's another superb JASPER The GRASPER strip by KEN REID; the bad news is that there's only one more to go.  The good news is that then you'll have the full set of six; the bad news is that there won't be any more to come.  The good news is that you've just had an interesting lesson in philosophy, demonstrating that the exact same circumstance can be both good and bad at the same time.  The bad news is that here endeth the lesson.  The good news is that I'll be back with another post; the bad news is that some of you will regard that last bit of good news as bad news.

Oh, well - you can't win 'em all!

Well-spotted, Kid. Just for a moment I was afraid that all your good-news bad-news back and forth had got your mind in a muddle.

Tiredness is my only excuse, GB. Glad I fixed it before someone pointed it out 'though.

Another brilliant piece of work by Ken Reid, wish he had been able to do more Jasper strips these are excellent - what was the reason for him stopping was the strip unpopular etc?

That'a an interesting question, McScotty. I don't think six episodes would've been enough to determine whether the strip was popular or not, so I suspect that perhaps he was just overloaded with work at the time. I mean, look at the detail in each page - it must've taken a lot out of him. Glad to know you're enjoying them.

The detail is impressive.
The man should be studied in Art schools up and down the land.
But I doubt that happens.
If it was not for blogs like this re-presenting this material,it would be forgotten.

Sadly, your last line is probably true, Baab.

Wow! I absolutely love 'Jasper The Grasper' - I think he was reprinted in the first 'Cor!' Annual, which is where I saw him. Not only was Ken Reid's artwork the creepiest damn thing my 8-year-old eyes had ever been subjected to (it was still a few years before I'd discover his Stateside counterpart, Basil Wolverton, in the cool Mad comics reprints tipped into their awesome '70s Super Specials), but this strip also had the added bonus of providing me with a readymade nickname as ammunition against my older brother whenever he tormented me too much (you guessed it - his name was Jasper!).

Thank you SO so much for posting these - you've really made my day! :-)

Yup, all six Ken Reid Jasper strips were reprinted in the first Cor!! Annual. I think that was where I first saw them back in the '70s. Glad you enjoyed seeing them again, and thanks for taking the time to say so.
