NOT BRAND ECHH COVER GALLERY - PART ONE...

Seeing as how a number of you seem to have enjoyed the recent WHAT THE - - ?! cover gallery, I thought you might also like to see its forerunner, NOT BRAND ECHH. So, herewith presented are the first five covers - the few remaining issues in my collection will be featured in a follow-up post whenever I remember.

This cover was later used on MARVEL MADHOUSE #1, a U.K. monthly mag published in 1981

And below is the cover to CRAZY #1 from 1972/'73 (first acquired by me while on holiday in Blackpool in 1973), which featured the contents of NBE #8, with the order rearranged somewhat.

PhilSee said...: I always liked NBE and am even more impressed now than I was when I first read them at the cartooning talents of, particularly, Marie Severin, Jack Kirby and Gene Colan. Quite often adapting stories they themselves had done the 'straight' versions of. Like Marie's Subby v Hulk battle and Gene's Captain Marvel exploits. Great to see some of these turning up in the bonus sections of the Marvel Masterworks volumes.

I picked up some of his Archie comics stuff a while back and it was different class - Marie Severin did a funny Batman strip recently as well, collected in one of the Bat-Man Black and white vols well worth picking up - McScotty; 1 October 2013 at 13:14

About the artist:

From 1985 to 2000 A.D. (little joke there), I contributed to a variety of high profile comics and magazines for various companies.

For IPC/FLEETWAY/EGMONT, I freelanced as a lettering and logo artist on various weekly comics and monthly magazines, and also as a resize comic artist and spot illustrator on pocket books, summer specials and annuals.

For MARVEL U.K., BLACK LIBRARY, REDAN and USBORNE BOOKS, I again freelanced as a lettering artist, also working as a restoration artist for MARVEL U.S., restoring and re-creating certain pages of JACK KIRBY art for their MARVEL MASTERWORKS editions.

I also lettered the MARVELMAN sample pages submitted to MARVEL U.S. when they were considering acquiring the character, which - as we all now know - they DID.

Supplied comic strips, cartoons and illustrated advertisements for local business campaigns and newspaper publication on a professional basis since the age of 16. Did my first paid art job for publication at 14 or 15 for Lanarkshire Education Board.

Have also made TV appearances as a collector of memorabilia.
